KRISHNAGAR, 14 MAY: Seven persons including a nine-month-old girl have reportedly tested positive for Covid-19 in Nadia in the last two consecutive days, taking the total number of cumulative cases to 16 till today.
Among 16 cases, only seven new cases are active while the rest have already been discharged after they tested negative thrice during their stays in the Covid hospitals.
As the Nadia district falls under the orange zone, the fresh new seven cases in consecutive two days may put it into the red zone.
A senior health official, however, said that one positive case has no connection with the district as the infected police person, who tested positive in Kolkata, had not gone to his native village in Nakashipara. During his swab test he registered his address as a resident of Nakashipara in Nadia and thus he has been treated as a positive case from Nadia by the state health department. It should be corrected soon.
“Apart from this, two other cases have been reported from Gangnapur under Ranaghat-II block. But, these two persons are migrant workers and they have tested positive in East Burdwan. We are checking the history of these two persons and then we will tag them in our district’s account”, said a health official.
In another case, a man, an Ayurvedic medicine seller, had tested positive in Asansole. He fled from an isolation center when his swab was taken for the second time. For the first time, he tested positive. The police were looking for him, but the Nadia police nabbed a man from Bowbazar in Krishnagar whose name was identical with the name of the person who fled.

“His name has been included in the list of our district as a covid positive, but we are still in confusion. So, we have sent him to the Kalyani SNR Carnival Covid hospital for a test and we will include his name only after he tests positive,” said a health official.

Today, the district health department has reported two new covid positive cases in its press report. A 22-year-old woman who works in a private hospital in Barrackpore as a nurse has tested positive. She last came to her parents’ house in Gayeshpur 1 May and went back to her work place two days later. As she had tested positive, local municipality and administration have advised her family members to stay in home quarantine.
In Chakdah, a youth has been tested positive for Covid-19. The youth, a driver by profession, brought a few persons in Chakdah recently and went back to Delhi. As he tested positive, we are trying to track the passengers and other persons who came in contact with him for sending them in quarantine, a health official said.
