Nadia reports a new corona positive case, 20 under isolation

KRISHNAGAR, 7 MAY: A new coronavirus positive case has been reported in Nadia today. With this new case, the district has been witnessed for nine cumulative cases while other eight cases showed each negative in the last two consecutive tests.

Sources placed in the district administration have confirmed the new case saying that the person, a resident of Gatra under Bhimpur police station limits in Nadia, tested positive for Covid-19 today. The 36-year-old man was admitted in a Kolkata-based private hospital with his kidney related ailments three days ago where the doctors collected swab samples for tests as he was also suffering from symptoms like that of a novel coronavirus.

“Today, his test report has been published where he tested positive for Covid-19”, an administrative officer said.

Soon after the report came to the district administration, the district health officials rushed to the village and sent the family members to the Ruipukur quarantine center. “We have collected samples from 16 persons including his family members and sent these to Kolkata for tests. These persons have already been taken to the quarantine center. We are also tracking other persons who came in contact with the affected person", said Biswajit Dhang, OC, Health of the Nadia district administration.  

The district has only one containment zone at Charatala under Chapra police station limits while Gatra is barely a few kilometers from the containment zone.  

On 5 May, the district's another containment zone at Srikishnapur in Burnia of Tehatta was freed from restrictions as there was no new cases of infection for the last 21 days.

"At a time when the district was steadily approaching towards green from orange zone, the new case at Gatra will obviously be the cause of concern for attaining the status", said an official.

Currently, the district has 20 suspected cases and they have been admitted in isolation centers. Among 17 quarantine centers having 880 beds, 27 persons are now staying at different quarantine centers for observation. This apart, 2468 persons have been staying in home quarantine.
