Another test positive for Covid-19 in West Midnapore, total count rises to four


Dr Girish Chandra Bera, chief medical officer of health said, “We have found a positive case in MMCH and he has been sent to the Covid hospital soon. We are now tracking the persons who came in contact with the persons for quarantine”.

MIDNAPORE, 6 MAY: One more person has been detected positive for Covid-19 in West Midnapore district, taking the total number of active corona cases to four till today.
The last infected person was admitted to the Midnapore Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) on 4 May with several problems while his report showed positive for novel coronavirus last night which prompted the district health authorities to send at least 20 health staffs of the hospital in the quarantine.
The district health authorities are tracking other health staff and patients who came in contact with the infected person during his treatment in the emergency and general medical wards.
According to health officials, the infected man, father of one intern attached with MMCH is a resident of Salkia in Howrah which falls under the red zone. The intern had brought his father from Salkia on 4 May and admitted him in MMCH. As he was suffering from various ailments along with fever, the hospital authority examined him in the emergency ward and his swub sample was taken for test. He was later shifted to the male medical ward as his condition was improved. Last night, his test report was found positive and he was soon shifted to a Covid hospital.  
Before this case, another elderly person from Khirpai under Chandrakona assembly constituency had tested positive for Covid-19 on 4 May. He, however, has been admitted in a Covid hospital in Kolkata now, but the district health department officials have sent his family members in the quarantine center for observation.
Three days ago, a RPF jawan in Kharagpur had tested positive and two days before it, a woman from Jakpur was found tested positive for Covid-19.

The Central government has recently included the West Midnapore district as a red zone, but the district authorities were hoping to come down in the status from red to orange zone as six out of seven RPF jawans affected with Corona freed from Baroma Covid hospital recently.But all hopes have disappeared as the district has witnessed two consecutive corona positive cases in the last two days.

Meanwhile, the district has earmarked five containment zones which include Nizampur and Ghata-Panskura bus stand in Ghatal, Kharagpur municipality ward numbers- 26 and 18 and Midnapore municipality ward number-25 (Station Para). The district administration has taken all necessary measures including sealing off the areas and sanitization, said an administrative official.
