KRISHNAGAR,
11 JUNE: The Nadia district has recorded the highest single-day spike with 20
Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. It has surpassed the highest daily count,
which was recorded on 4 June of 15 cases.
With
the new cases, the district’s total number of Covid-19 cases rose to 152, a
district health bulletin stated.
Apart from this figure supplied by the district health
department, at least three positive cases from different areas across the
district have been reported before this correspondent by the concerned local
people.
A considerable number of migrants returned from Maharashtra, Karnatak, Punjab and Gujarat to Nadia turned Covid-19 positive, giving the administration a shock on what to expect as the tide of returning workers continues in the coming days.
This
apart, four National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) jawans posted in their
eastern zone headquarters at Haringhata, who worked during the devastating cyclone
Amphan, tested positive. The test reports of several other NDRF jawans whom the
district health department had collected swab samples have not been reached
yet. The health officials suspect that many jawans may be affected as they
worked together with the corona-hit areas during the disaster.
A
health official said at least 62 personnel of the NDRF who worked during the
devastating cyclone Amphan at various districts in West Bengal tested positive
for Covid-19 in Odisha.
As many as 177 personnel have submitted swab tests for the deadly
virus in West Bengal and Odisha after they returned to their respective
stations, a health official said.
Almost all of those who tested positive are asymptomatic. More
tests are being done, an official said. Those found positive have been admitted
to hospital isolation facilities.
The NDRF had deployed 19 teams in West Bengal for relief and
rescue work during and after the cyclone that made landfall on 20 May. Each
team had about 45 personnel.
Among 20 new positive cases in Nadia, 11 persons including four
NDRF jawans from Haringhata municipality, one from Santipur, two from Santipur
municipality, one from Krishnagar-II, one from Ranaghat-I, three from
Tehatta-II and one from Tehatta-I, tested positive for Covid-19.

suspected cases today while the cumulative figure of the suspected cases rose
to 3460. Among these suspected cases, 3315 persons have already been released.
